The family name as well as the brand have been written both as Macinlay and Mackinlay.
Charles Macinlay started business in Leith in 1815.
The brand name “The Original Macinlay” was registered in 1847.
In 1892 the family was involved in building Glen Mhor distillery. And the bottles found under the floor boards of Shackleton’s South Pole base was single malt from this distillery bottled as Macinlay’s Rare Old Highland Malt.
Family ownership ended in 1961 and the brand is now owned by Whyte & Mackay.
