The distillery was established in 1840 by Meredith Basil Hayden Sr. and the brand was made by his grandson Raymond in his honor, including a portrait of Meredith on the labels.

The brand is now owned by Suntory and  distilled at the Jim Beam Plant in Clermont, Kentucky.
