Legal distilling on the site started 1816 by John Johnston.

Bought in 1862 by innovator and creator of the White Horse brand John Logan Mackie.

White Horse Distillers became part of DCL, now Diageo, in 1927.

The bell in their logo represent the one from the old Lagavulin church. For a long timre kept in the distillery but now hung outside across the parking area.
