Glengyle distillery was built in 1872 by Mitchell, the owners of Springbank.
In 1919 they sold it to West Highland Malt Distillers before closing down in 1925.
In 1941 it is bought by Bloch Bros which are not able to reopen it because of WWII.
Mitchell buys it back in 2000 but the brand name is retained by Bloch Bros. Hence the distillery is named Glengyle but the whisky they produce was given the name Kilkerran.
