In the 1840s, John Begg established his Lochnagar Distillery near the gates of Balmoral, the sprawling country estate of the British royal family. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert soon paid him a visit and he was awarded a Royal Warrant for his Scotch Whisky.

The brand is still bottled and is now owned by The Sazerac Company.
