Established in 1780 by emigrated Scotsman John Jameson which was married to Margaret Haig, daughter of John Haig.

Another curiousa is that John was the great grandfather of Guglielmo Marconi, the inventor of wireless telegraphy.

In 1976 the distillery moved from Dublin to Cork, and the old site was renovated as a museum in 2016.
