One of the oldest distilleries in Scotland dating back to 1797, some argue even earlier. Founded by Thomas Simpson.

Bought by DCL (Diageo) in 1937, mothballed because of water shortage in 1968 and sold off to Morrison.

Morrison locates a new water source and continues production from 1973.

Mothballed again between 1995 and 1997 after Morrison Bowmore was bought by Suntory.
