Production started in 1837. However it was not bottled as a single malt until 1986. Up until then it had been a major component in the King’s Ransom blend which in the US was imported by a deal with mafia boss Frank Costillo, which skimmed a percentage of the sales.
In 2002 it was sold by Pernod Richard to it’s current owner Signatory Vintage which have built their own warehouse and bottling plant next to the distillery.
