In 1846 John Dewar started out as a merchant in Perth. In the 1860’s he started blending his own whisky. John died in 1880 but the family business carried on. And as demand grew his son John Alexander commissioned Aberfeldy distillery in 1898.
In 1925 Dewar’s were one of the initiators of DCL, later to become Diageo which in 1998 sold it on to it’s present owner; the Bacardi Group.
