James Ainslie & Co. started business in 1868.
In 1896 he bought and completely rebuilt the original Clynelish, later Brora, distillery.
The distillery was sold in 1912 to focus on the blending side of the business.
Became part of DCL in 1926.
The brand was discontinued around mid 1980's, and since 1998 have been owned by Belgian distiller Bruggeman.
